Day 1 - Getting back to health

Well, I've been gone for MONTHS! My life has changed dramatically. I'm now living up in Seattle, Washington. I'm three months into an amazing job as a technical writer at a AAA game company, and as of last month, I have my own apartment.

It's a bit crazy. I have almost zero furniture. I'm sleeping on an air mattress. My cats are still living in California with the parents (I really miss my cats). I also already expect to move out of this apartment when my lease it up in July 2015. At that point, I should be moving in with a friend. I hope to still have this amazing job, but my contract is only for a year, so I could be out of work. However, I'm not going to worry about that until it gets closer.

Before I got my own place, I was living in a friend's guest house. Which was amazing because I really needed her support. But it was bad because her husband was a good cook and it was summer so he made homemade ice cream 2-3 nights of the week. I'm now back up to 160lbs, which is less than desirable. On the bright side, I still comfortably fit into my size 10 pants (just not the skinny 10s), and have no need for any size 12's. This means that while I did gain weight back, my body fat is still less than it was the last time I weighed 160lbs. Hooray for muscle mass!

With the "Thin it to Win it Challenge" that I've signed up for, my goal is to lose 6% of my body weight. That will get just shy of 150lbs. Totally do able. I've got Medifast meals to help.

Here are my commitments to myself.

  • I will not skip breakfast. Medifast makes a quick and healthy choice.
  • I will continue to use my standing desk at work.
  • I will drink 4-6 bottles of water a day.
  • I will not give into cravings for junk food. Pomegranate Green Tea or a Medifast Peanut-butter bar are better choices to satisfy my sweet tooth.
  • I will exercise at least 3 times a week. (Blogilates, in-door rock climbing, going for a 20 min run are all acceptable)
  • I will increase my fruit and veggie in take.

Today, I felt really tired and sluggish. Around lunch time, I walked across the street to the grocery story and bought a couple of apples to munch on and they seemed to help a bit. I'm actually so tired that even thought it's not quite 8pm, I'm going to finish this post and then crawl into bed.
