Month 2 - Week 4 - Day 1: Embrel and Applications

I accomplished stuff today!
  • Left a message with the local Junior college asking about my refund for the ceramics class that I dropped.
  • Worked on my PHD Application!
    • Asked for letters of recommendation for my application to the PHD program I want. 3 of 4 people have said yes. I can't see the fourth person saying no, so that will be two professional and two academic recommendations.
    • Requested transcripts from previous universities to be mailed
  • Contacted another artist regarding possible concept art for my video game portfolio
  • Renued the library books that were due back tomorrow, because there is no way I'm getting to the library tomorrow.
  • Emailed my doctor about my TRAPS episodes and told him I'm back on the shot.
  • Wrote this post!
  • Emailed my health coach with my weekly check in!
For the PHD program, I need all of the following:

1.     Personal Statement - Describe my professional and academic areas of interest and goals. Address what I see as my strengths and weaknesses relating to these areas of interest and discuss my plans and goals. Also, I must describe formative experiences leading me to pursue graduate training in this field. I should briefly note key theorists, books, or ideas that have influenced me in particular, and add any other information I feel is important for the Admissions Committee to consider.
"Your personal statement will be the first, and most important, piece of your application file which the faculty read. I recommend you take 3-5 pages to share formative experiences leading you to pursue graduate training within our Myth program; to discuss your plans and goals; describe your professional, personal and academic areas of interest and address what you see as your strengths and weaknesses. Many applicants include information about an author/theorist, cycle of Mythology, or work of art which has significance to them.  It is not uncommon for our Myth students to begin their personal statements relating a dream, epiphany or story about their call to study this material—our program is full of individuals who speak in the language of metaphor, story and symbol."
Soo, you know... no pressure.

2.     Resume -  DONE AND IN THE MAIL

3.     Academic Writing Sample - Submit an academic writing sample, pertaining to mythology, religious studies, literature, psychology, or the arts. This paper should be a minimum of 10 pages.

I'm going to write about religion and myth in the Halo game series. I suspect that no one else is coming at this program with a video game angle.

4.     Three signed Letters of Recommendation and the Admissions Recommendation Forms - one academic, one professional, and one academic or professional. Requested, and waiting for them to write and mail.

5.     Official Transcripts - Requested and should arrive in the next one-two weeks.

So looking this over, all I need to work on is the personal statement and the writing sample. Not to bad for one day's work. I'm going to head off to house-sit again. It's so relaxing there. I love The Quite. My goal is to revise 10 pages of my manuscript tonight.
